Yang Style Sword at Chinese New Year 2014   1 comment

DSCN1065

Aloha, and Happy New Year.

Thank you all for coming to the huge celebration at the Maui Mall!  It was the best ever, and I was honored to be the first person on stage (for the fourth time) again this year.  I demonstrated four forms, starting with Zi Fa Gong (spontaneous qigong), then the Wudang Kung Fu Taiyi Wuxing Quan (Five element fist), Wudang 108 Long Form Taijiquan, and finally, Yang Style Sword.  It was a blessing to have some friends take great photos and we thought we would share them with the universe…

We are also announcing a new Yang Style Sword class on Thursday mornings in Haiku.

Click on the photos to see larger images, Thank you to Phil Sabado, Pam Kesler, and Wanda Russell for the photos.

Qigong on Maui in the news!   2 comments

Expert Qigong instructor Cory Williams teaches the concepts of energy arts on the lawn at Kaunoa Senior Center.

Maui Mindset

The Valley Isle has some of the happiest seniors in Hawai‘i. Is it simply a Maui state of mind? Or is there more to it?

by Aimee Harris from Generations Magazine

The fact that each year people from all over the world move to Maui to retire must say something … or perhaps it says a lot.

During a recent trip to the Valley Isle, Generations Magazine found two qualities that make Maui County a magnet for the more mature crowd: Residents are very civic minded, and the county’s elected officials care for its seniors — both in word and in deed.

“What makes Maui attractive is our philosophy of taking care of each other,” says Ruth Griffith, administrator of Kaunoa Senior Services, a division of the County of Maui’s Department of Housing and Human Concerns. “Maui County is made up of small communities. We look out for one another. Even our seniors who receive support services want to give back to the community, whether its by helping our children, volunteering for local nonprofits or assisting the sick and frail. Maui seniors play a vital role in maintaining our thriving communities.”

In government, elected officials support senior health and fund senior programs even during hard times, such as the most recent recession. “Maui County is amazing in terms of its commitment to seniors,” says Griffith.

Due to the Baby Boomer generation, the number of people turning 60 in Maui County will nearly double by 2020, according to the Maui County Office On Aging. In addition, there is an unreported number of seniors who move to Maui County to retire each year.

In response to Maui’s next big wave of seniors, the county is placing more focus and funds on health, well-being and prevention. “It’s our job to find ways to keep seniors healthy, engaged and giving back to the community because they are a gold mine of information, time and wisdom,” says Griffith.

Of the many services and organizations in Maui County, Kaunoa Senior Center in Pa‘ia and the West Maui Senior Center in Lahaina serve as central hubs of activity for senior programs and activities. The centers provide opportunities for seniors to learn and grow through five ongoing, countywide programs:

● Leisure/Wellness Programs

● Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

● Congregate Nutrition Program

● Assisted Transportation Program

● Meals On Wheels

● Adventures, Ambitions & Altruism

The article is about Kaunoa in general, and the only thing about qigong here is the photo. Thank you to everyone for helping to get this image as the center two page spread lead photo. Increasing awareness about the Taoist arts is very helpful and we are very grateful to Generations Magazine for using our class as an example of “the happiest seniors in Hawai‘i.”

Understanding Qigong Class   3 comments

DSCN1005

Learn the fundamentals of Qigong

I will unlock the secrets of qigong for you; so you can see how (and why) you can move energy to any part of your body that you wish. With a full understanding of the basics of your internal energy system, you will have a solid foundation to understand Traditional Chinese Medicine, Taiji, Qigong, and Taoist meditation.

This class explains all about the art and science of Qigong. Once you know how your energy system works it all makes sense. For instance, we eat food and we breathe and we turn it into electricity that moves our muscles and our bones. This same system feeds energy to our brains, internal organs, bone marrow, skin and everything else, including our thoughts and our emotions. When the energy gets stuck or becomes stagnant, our health suffers, in Chinese medicine this is considered the cause of most health issues. In the western world, 75% of all doctors visits are for preventable illnesses. By combining scientific knowledge along with exercises and meditation, students can learn Taoist methods for ultimate health and longevity.

I will explain everything!… starting from the moment of conception…
how your qi system was formed in your body, and how you make qi, where and how you store it, and how to cultivate and conserve it.

I will show you many different Qigong techniques, for medical reasons, and spiritual practices as well as for strengthening your bodies. These exercises will bring your awareness to the sensations of actually feeling the qi move inside of you. Learning how to unlock stuck qi is an enlightening experience!

Some of the topics explored:

History
Wuji, skeletal alignment
Yiquan standing exercises
The three dantians
The eight extraordinary vessels
The twelve meridians
Tuning your breath
Five element theory
Microcosmic orbit
Embryonic breathing
Meditation methods
Nei gong internal qigong
Various breathing methods

There are many different types and styles of qigong exercises, both standing and sitting. I will explain the methods and applications, and be your coach.

I have never seen a class like this before on Maui and I thought it would be nice to pull away the veil that obscures some, if not all of the mysteries that lie “beyond the mysterious beyond.” With this knowledge students can train with anyone and know what is going on. Bring your knowledge up to the instructors level!

This class is on Thursdays at Kaunoa at 11:00 until 12:00
Call and sign up today 270-7308

Wudang Tai Chi in Haiku Maui   1 comment

At Giggle Hill

At Giggle Hill

Welcome to Haiku, Thursday mornings at 8:00 until 9:30 AM.  I will be cultivating my life forces at the Fourth Marine Division Park, AKA Giggle Hill.   I come to this park often and really love the energy here; the sunrise over Haleakala…with the cool morning breeze awakening the trees! This is a perfect environment for Zhan Zhuang, Yiquan and Taiji.

Start Simple each day. Tune your breathing, find your center and open your mind and body to an adventure within.

I am currently teaching the Wudang Taijiquan Long Form as well as a very primordial Wudang Wuji Hun Yuan Qigong, this would be a great opportunity to learn the rare and beautiful Wudang style taiji.  The qigong set will focus on the Three Dantians and the Eight Extraordinary Vessels.

For my entire Schedule click; HERE

I am always happy to help get you started on the Way.

Relax, Peace is within you…   6 comments

DSCN0399 copy

Each day is a new beginning.
I believe many people today are arriving in the “New Millennia” finding out that everything has changed!
We are all fully realized in the material world. How else could you be reading this now?
It seems to me that we should want for nothing material anymore. The human race has definetly mastered materialism.
Today the world finds itself in many conflicts of culture and ideology, numerous countries are coming apart as well.
This time in human history we have more important things to resolve as we evolve as humans.
I believe spiritual and scientific paradoxes, if reasoned out, can be the breakthrough that transforms the human race.
Qigong, is spiritual and scientific, Taoist philosophy resolves and harmonizes all paradoxes.
Qigong can bring the human race to a new awakening like no other discipline in history.

Train each day,
Know that every breath is the spirit returning,

Reduce your desires and cravings…
Simplify your involvements in the world…
Calm your mind and let go your burdens.

Enter the enlightened age of peace and harmony through Taiji!
