Sitting Qigong Class at Kaiser   1 comment

Maui Lani Clinic October 14th 21st and 28th  11-12 noon

I’ll be sharing some things I’ve learned from Dong Zeng Chen

Learning to do seated qigong is part exercise and part meditation and unlike almost anything you have ever done before. Tuning up your internal energies such as, breath, circulatory, nervous, chemical, hormonal, mental, emotional and spiritual systems is a key reason we take up Taiji.

Doing seated qigong effects a person differently from Taiji, focusing the mind more inwardly connecting with a different set of channels that flow qi in your body, mind and spirit. As Taiji (for a beginner) is about moving the body around, sitting qigong is more about moving energy around within the body.

Movement and stillness……Alternating between movement and stillness, learning to sublimate your energy, changing matter into energy directly, using the mind to focus the qi……Calming your mind and healing past emotional traumas, getting clear internally, feeling the growing spirit within you. All these things bring you a new level of self-awareness.

Wuji, Qigong and Taiji: all these methods work in concert to improve your life. We need to balance movement with stillness, standing with sitting, internal and external, yin and yang into yin/yang. Doing sitting qigong fills a void in my life in a way that standing and Taiji cannot.

Learning the basics of seated qigong may be the most valuable experience of your life.

Taiji and Qigong at the Smokestack   1 comment

“Plantation Days” celebration in Lahaina (Last years poster) Click image to enlarge

I’m going to be demonstrating Taiji and Qigong at this celebration.  This is looking like it’s going to be a fun time for the whole family on two nights in Lahaina.  Food, music, and Taiji….. Plus lots more; something for everyone.

I do a lot with the Wo Hing Temple in Lahaina as part of the Taoist tradition. My friend Busaba Yip Douglas is always a pleasant soul to work with and this time she has me doing a Taiji and qigong demo as well as a late night meditation session at this exciting event.

The event is for two days, Friday and Saturday October 22nd and 23rd.
I will be there from 5:00 PM until 10:00 both nights.  I usually just keep doing Taiji and qigong for three or four hours just to add some ambiance to the evening. I hope to see you there….

Sifu Fong Ha here on Maui!   3 comments

Sifu Fong Ha comes from our lineage.... Starting his Taiji training from Master Dong's grandfather in 1953

Starting September 28th through October 10th Master Fong Ha will be here giving a workshop at Kamaole #3 Beach Park in Kihei.

He will not be here on the weekend of Oct. 2nd & 3rd

There is no charge! Just show up and learn…

6:00 AM   Standing and/or Sitting Meditation facing the Ocean, along the fence just above the beach about midway in KAM III (some folks have a hard time figuring out where they are)

7:00 AM Qigong & Taiji walking (easier for beginners)
8:00 AM  to 9:00 AM   Long Form Taiji

I recently discovered that he first learned Taiji from  Tung Ying Jieh (Master Dong’s grand father)  in 1953.  I will be there on Thursdays Sept 30th and Oct. 7th and Monday Oct. 4th and some mornings before my classes start elsewhere.

There is a link to his website on the “Taiji Facts” sidebar.

This is a rare opportunity to train with a living legend; I hope to see you there.

Isle seniors learn graceful gestures

The Maui News / MATTHEW THAYER photo Cory Williams shows Kula’s Louise Brandeburg, 84, how to block a punch Tuesday.

Seeking strength and balance in the shade of a Spreckelsville monkeypod tree, a taiji class goes through its moves at Kaunoa Senior Center on Tuesday afternoon under the direction of Cory Williams. Williams teaches a half dozen classes weekly for Kaunoa, including locations in Lahaina, Kahului, Kihei and Spreckelsville. By mixing the “energy cultivation” exercises of “qigong” and the martial-art maneuvers of taiji, Williams said, he helps Maui seniors stay active and on their feet. Williams said taiji is now the accepted spelling of tai chi.

New Class at Kaunoa   1 comment

Aloha,

Thanks for all the support; there were twenty people at my new class on Tuesday Dec 1st.

I’m expanding my Taiji family, it was great to meet new people that  understand how important learning Taiji is.

Today I was talking with some new friends and I had a thought…

To improve our quality of life, we have many options with various paths.

You could, for instance, take a Yoga class, or Aerobics, maybe a Martial Arts class, or Dance, Weight lifting would help…..Maybe go for a  Walk, some Calisthenics, Pilates,  Fendelkris, or Swimming.

Then of course you would need to see your Massage Therapist, a Chiropractor,  or maybe a Physical Therapist, or maybe even an Orthopedic Surgeon. Later, it would be nice to Meditate, get some Quiet Time, or else you may need to  see a Spiritual Counselor, or a Psychiatrist.

After that you could Relax, Read some Philosophy, and ponder what a true act of Self Love might be.

Or… you could start on the Taiji Path and get all these benefits simultaneously and with… no effort…without joining a gym, or purchasing any equipment; and at the same time, become aware of any changes in your health before you might need  a doctors visit.

Certainly Taiji and Qigong will save you all the time you would have spent chasing after all those other paths.

And…….Taiji could save your life!
